I've been using VLC for quite some time now. I used to have to install codec pack after codec pack so I could play different types of video files. Then I was happy to see the video community start offering combined codec packs and alternatives to popular codecs (such as quicktime and realplayer), these alternatives were at first, not up to snuff but did get better over time. Well, I stopped doing all that, and at the same time, gave up on installing Real Player, Quicktime (and iTunes) and using the Windows Media Players since XP was king.

Nowadays, VLC is the only video player I install for my purposes, it supports almost every known format and plays DVDs like a champ. I've had no reason to use any other player except maybe XBMC or Boxee for an HTPC (Home Theater PC) setup.

If you want trouble free video viewing and whole lot of options (you don't have to use them but they are there), then try VLC, it's free, it's Open Source, it's extendable, it's skinnable and there's a version for Windows, OSX, iOS, Android, and every Linux flavor out there.

Like the name says, every day you will see a fully licensed version software offered totally free! While it isn't technically freeware, you still don't have to pay for it during the giveaway time.

Here is a tip though, you need to activate the software license before the time is up, otherwise you lose out.

Also, you will want to read up on the comments section for the software, if there are problems, you can bet it'll be posted there.

When I am considering downloading a Giveaway, I will also visit the website first to see much more details about the software before I download it.
