Wagner, gives insightful and thoughtful discussion of Chinese government policies and actions. Discussing the impact China has had on the global stage and the implications for the future in the economic, manufacturing and political spheres. As China increases their global power and influence it is important to understand the past and also to recognize where they are heading. From diplomacy to cyber warfare to becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse, it is important to understand China, past, present and future.

The author takes a bold, brash approach to analyzing Chinese foreign policy and says things that need to be said. China's take no prisoners approach to international relations got old a long time ago. It is high time the world's nations said they will no longer stand for what has become a Chinese bulldozer. The book is a much needed and welcome wake-up call to the Chinese government and the world's nations.

Having just picked up disc golf and becoming hooked about two months ago, I wanted to absorb as much about it as I could. I watched videos and read reviews for discs and listened to podcasts. The reflection time that you have between your shots was such a draw for me, and Patrick puts this time to the most positive use. The ideas and philosophies that he lays out are meant to sharpen the mental blade in the game, but they seamlessly bleed into your everyday life.I am a fifth grade teacher, and as I was reading I was picturing all of these positive thoughts ending up on my walls of my classroom. Reading this book and listening to his podcast has inspired me to start a disc golf club in my school. In the book he speaks of three groups, the mentor, the peer, and the protege. And how the positivity that you spread to the protege comes back to you in great amounts. My goal is to pass these ideas on to the next generations of players.I really can't say enough good things about this book. Read it.

My son loves disc golf. He's played all kinds of sports and understands that your mental state certainly affects your playing. Ultimately, that's what sports is about; sure, there's skill and luck involved, but ultimately the athlete who masters his or her mind prevails. I read about this book and ordered it for him for a birthday present. He almost teared up when he opened it and said he'd been wanting it for forever and how did I know. I purchased this book because I wanted to read something about the subject of disc golf which has become a hobby that I very much enjoy. Know this: it's not a book on how to play the game or even throw a disc. It's not a book on Zen either. It's a book on mindfulness and using the disc golf course as an avenue towards mindfulness that can potentially spill over into your life in a positive way. I've read it an re-read it and I love it. The author does not claim to be an expert in the ideas he is presenting, but instead humbly offers up ways for you to see your games in a new light and take lessons from them that can apply to all aspects of your life. For this I'm grateful to him for his effort. I would recommend this to any disc golf fan that wants to deepen their experience with the game.

I've read a good deal of material on Zen and other various spiritual practices, but the concepts in Zen in the Art of Disc Golf have stuck with me more than any other book because I love disc golf and everything is introduced in a disc golf context. All of the concepts are then shown to apply to many other aspects of life beyond disc golf as well. It's written in a very practical tone so it's comfortable to read and is understandable.There is very little material involving the mental and spiritual game of disc golf, so it's great to have more available especially since this is quality and thoughtful work.

I read this in one night with a pink highlighter. The writer makes clear connections between disc golf and other aspects of life. A good opportunity for reflection. I did find myself chuckling at times when the writer's inner zen master came on a little strong: "Disc golf can become a mirror of yourself once you learn to step back and see that you are the game and the game is you." To his credit, the writer spends the rest of the book clarifying this idea in concrete and relatable terms. I'll definitely take his advice and read a chapter between rounds and use my time on the course to reflect on the spiritual and mental sides of my game.

I really like what this book has to say in reguards to the sport of Disc Golf and the power of positive thinking. Writen from the stand point of an "average Joe" Disc Golfer with a good grasp on spirital balance, this book is a must read to help elevate your mind, body, and spirit and drastic lower your scores on the course. I have used this book to aid in my enjoyment of the sport and to help clear my mind of the things that used to keep me up at night. Thank You Pat for sharing this with the world... Maybe your next book could be "Zen and the art of Mankind"... A practical guide to getting along with everyone else... Then we could all get some sleep!!!

I read author William Alan Webb's speculative/adventure fiction with great pleasure. When I bought The Last Attack, i fully expected to read more of the same. Silly me. Webb has produced a solid historical account of the death of the 6th Panzer Army in the closing weeks of WWII. Last stands have a certain morbid fascination for many of us and the sacrifice of this major panzer unit makes a good, if unpleasant. read. WWII fans and fans of tanks and tank warfare will be acquainted with the tale, at least in broad outline. Webb brings us up to date in every respect, from the high command to the men in the front line, he tells us everything. Webb has a straight forward but fluid writing style that brings us a great deal of information but he does so in a way that constantly keeps our interest. This is not some dusty tome written by and for academics and impenetrable to the rest of us. He lets us in on Hitler's decision making process, which might be indistinguishable from madness (my interpretation, not Mr. Webb;s). He includes amazing details like the Panther tank unit that fought the Soviets while actually mounted on flat cars awaiting their train to pull them to the West. In another detail, a telling one to me, he wrote of a pair of brand new, factory fresh Pz. IV tanks that arrived at the front only to be immediately destroyed by their crews. The troops were already fleeing and could not put the tanks to use. This is a short book but a very useful one to history buffs. I have read of the fighting in Austria at the close of the war but never as fully complete a rendering. The post war status of Austria might well have hinged on the sacrifice of the 6th Panzer Army. What a nice surprise for me to read this book without preconception, (The reviewer is the author of The Armed Forces of Iran)

I picked this up because I am interested in the little known subject and because I have read William Alan Webb's superb "Last Brigade" series. The first thing to understand approaching this is that it is only 69 pages, and there is a limit of how much depth one can get in that space. That said and accepted, however, it give a marvelous synopsis of the last months of the 6th SS Panzer Army (of Battle of the Bulge fame) in its misbegotten attempts to save the Austria and the Hungarian oilfields for Hitler. As I expected, Webb is a master of both strategy and tactics as well as the military background to understand and explain, succinctly, events in Hungary in 1945. I left the slim volume with a much better grasp of "the big picture" of what happened and a desire to read more in detail. I strongly recommend the book to those interested in the fate of the legendary Waffen SS formations which had so distinguished themselves in the titanic struggle on the Eastern Front. No one struggling to understand the fall of Berlin should miss this account of events in Hungary which have everything to do with that event.

Concise history of the last German offensive of the War that most likely saved Austria of becoming a Warsaw Pact member.

This tiny story tells about the movement of a small force to Hungary at the end of the war. This movement was based on one of Hitler's orders. It could have been discussed fully in a high school history report. It is not worthy of a book at any price. Save your money.

More of an essay than a book.....cited references which I will read but this book is at best a glancing surface only level review of the situation with minimal actual facts backing up the short pamphlet.

The shape of post war Europe was set by this ill advised campaign ordered by Hitler. It's an overview of the campaign and what led up to it.

A nice addition to a WWII library. Makes sense of the campaigns in the Austria-Hungary region at the end of the war which is typically ignored in WWII histories.

Before purchasing, I read a couple of reviews about the difficulty of cutting out the pages to use and how the directions dont talk about taking the book apart. So I attached some photos so you can see what they meant. I just tok of the cover and the bind kept in tact. I was easily able to tear off the top page. Since it is a progressive book, I can keep the book in the bind without taking it all apart. You can see the pictures get more difficult to cut, starting out with lines and moving on to more complicated shapes.The paper quality is great, it's easy to tear off the cover and each page afterward, and its attractive and simple. I would recommend it to help your child develop scissor skills.

When I purchase a good product for my kids, I rave about it. This was worth rating one star. The fact that the pages are not perforated makes me go from love it to hate it. If you buy the book and read the instructions, you will instantly agree with me. I can't even get the pages out properly for my daughter to use this workbook!! Maybe I got an extremely bad copy (I've sent a note to their customer service) but I can't believe the challenge they have made for parents before kids can even do the workbook. To explain further because you can't see the book, the instructions want you to cut along each page and remove with maybe 1 mm of space between cutting and binder. Not even enough space to get scissors between the line and the binder to cut. I tried tearing, but doesn't work so well in the middle of the page. I am going to take my copy to an office depot to see if they can cut the pages out with a cutting board, but what mom needs another errand to run? Really disappointed, but maybe my expectation were so high because of all the rave reviews, which is why I purchased in the first place. If it was perforated, it would be perfect. Because it isn't, it's one star! (will update my review if I hear back from their customer service.)Update on 12/16: you have to disassemble the book and break the spine to use the book per customer service. Maybe if I had known that initially that you have to tear apart the book to use it, I would not have rated it so poorly, but it seems the company should fix that by adding perforated pages. My one star rating stands!

My preschool daughter really enjoys the Kumon cutting books. They really help her in her scissor skills.My one and only complaint is that the pages are extremely difficult to remove from the book. The pages instruct that an adult should cut along the edge of the page to separate the page from the book before giving it to the child. Unfortunately, the book only provides about a half an inch before the content of the page begins. It is impossible to cut the line down the page without cutting into the contents of the page. I had to tear up the entire book and separate all of the pages from the spine of the book just so I could remove the pages easily. It is a bit of a nuisance and unsightly and disorganized.This problem could have been easily remedied if they'd just perforated the edges of the paper or left plenty of room before beginning the content of the page.

This book is nice, sturdy paper and well thought progression of scissor skills. The pages are also interesting to look at and often appeal to my children.My five year old has to be dragged through the page, and he becomes frustrated that he cannot complete the practice page perfectly. He is mostly able to cut the page independently as I remind him how to hold the scissors in relationship to the rest of his body and to use his free hand to guide the page. His scissor skills have somewhat progressed with the help of this workbook. (More so the summer task assigned by the teacher of, "work on non-preferred tasks," has been accomplished.)My barely three year old is eager to cut out this pages. To successfully accomplish a page he does need to sit on my lap as I help guide his hands and instruct, "Big, long bite." This book has helped him transition from aimless snipping with Fiskars Pre-School Spring Action Scissors, Color Received May Vary (93907097) to independently cutting a straight-ish line with blunt scissors.

Please Kumon: These pages need to be perforated! The cutting activities are meant to be torn out or cut out by the parent and it is just annoying. Sometimes, I tear the "starting arrow" right off. Otherwise, it's a great book for my home schooling kindergarten student. It builds well from one activity to the next. We do 2 pages/week.

My 4 year old has been practicing cutting here and there, but I wanted to start some more routine practice in this learning area. The Kumon cutting book has been the perfect solution. I like how the skill level starts at beginner and advances as we travel through the book. The images on each page make learning cutting more fun too. I was a bit concerned after reading the reviews stating that the pages are difficult to remove in a clean fashion. I folded the cover back along the seam and that offered more room for me to remove pages. We have only done the first two pages, but I will probably end up removing the cover as one reviewer recommended to make it even easier to remove the remaining pages.

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful visit to the Emerald Isle. What a wonderful 2 weeks! Reading this wonderful book, both before and after our visit, was monumentally useful for us. In the magnificent flow of the storyteller, Frank Delaney takes you on a magical trip through both fact and fiction in this novel come alive. I found that my understanding of what I experienced was so much enhanced using the book as a sort of accompaniment piece. I encourage you to read it for the simple pleasure of doing so, but also as an enticement to visit the country if you've not already done so; or as a wonderful refreshing of your memories if you have.

Ronan O’Mara is a nine-year old boy who lives in rural Ireland with his mother, father, and aunt. The year is 1951. One day, a mysterious stranger – an older man – appears at the doorstep. Who is he? We don’t know. We know his visit is expected. Neighbors come over, and the stranger tells the family and their neighbors a story. Several stories actually. It seems this is the gift of the stranger. A storyteller. Ronan wishes the man could stay forever, but his impatient mother feels he’s outstayed his welcome after a few days, and the stranger leaves. There’s something about this man that has touched Ronan’s soul though, and Ronan can’t rest easy with the stranger no longer in his life. So Ronan begins a twelve year quest to find the stranger.Now, before I go further, let’s go back to the stories that the old man told Ronan and company. These stories are quite a pleasant diversion from our “main” story. The stories that the stranger tells are about the people’s homeland and history -the history of Ireland. True, there’s a lot of myth, fable, and tradition within these yarns, but the storyteller knows how to enrapture an audience. It doesn’t surprise us in the least that Ronan can’t rest until he finds out where the man is after he leaves. At the very least, it would be nice to find out who he is.Reading this wonderful novel allows you to suspend any sort of disbelief you may have. Is it really common to invite a complete stranger into your house for a week simply because he can tell stories? Is this man even real? Or is he a figment of young Ronan’s imagination? Does the existence of this character serve only to aid Ronan discover his destiny? Good stories really are rare, and Frank Delaney simply entertains us to the point that we simply don’t want to add too much logic within the pages we’re reading. These stories of Ireland that are juxtaposed through the pages are simply wonderful tales, and many times altogether too brief.As Ronan embarks on his journey, he seems to be forever one or two steps behind the storyteller. But this doesn’t stop Ronan from hearing more of the stranger’s stories. Wherever Ronan goes, it seems he’s allowed to hear more stories from the stranger in many different forms. Sometimes, he hears the stories secondhand. Other times, the story teller leaves Ronan written tales that the storyteller composed for him to enjoy. It seems the stranger knows Ronan might be searching for him.What makes this novel more pleasurable as that we also get to know Ronan and his family quite well. Had these extra tales not been thrown into the main storyline, this still would have been a terrific book. Ronan, like all of us, has his own life to live, and as the story progresses, we learn more about his own personal history and the events that shape his character. So maybe a great way to describe this book is “several wonderful stories told within a story”.Although this book takes place in Ireland and all of the stories are about Ireland’s history, the overall feel is quite light. This isn’t a densely packed James Michener type of book. I feel that had author Frank Delaney wanted to write such a book, he could have easily done so, however. But overall, this book is rather light on the historical narratives of the country. The main objective here is Ronan, and his quest to find his calling.I loved this book. As someone who reads quite a bit of fiction, I never take great writing for granted. The story is the point of a good book, but more important is how the author tells the story. How else could John Grisham become so popular? On the surface, dozens of books about the law profession don’t sound very exciting, but Grisham is a great storyteller.And so is Frank Delaney. After reading this book (Summer 2018) I was sad to discover that Mr. Delaney passed away about a year ago. Fortunately, he has several other books that he penned (all seem to be somewhat related to Ireland), and I’m eagerly looking forward to reading more by this author.

Long before books became readily available, traveling story tellers went from town to town, telling stories of great battles, famous and infamous rulers and little tidbits of information that enthralled audiences. Even after printing evolved, victors were most often the “scribes” that recounted important historical events; many of them openly biased. In some environs, the story teller continued setting records straight and bringing dry history to life with colorful language and exciting depictions of events. Such is the story of this novel. A young boy becomes a fanatic history buff after listening to one such story teller and spends much of his youth searching for the gifted narrator. The story teller is elusive, yet feeds the young man’s interest by leaving him some of his stories at locations where the younger man was sure to follow, so as he seeks the teller, he is rewarded with more stories. This is a masterful blend of historical events and fictional characters well worth the time spent.

IRELAND, the country and place of my ancestry is and always has been a mystery to me. IRELAND, the novel turned that mystery into magic and deepened my love of the country, our people, their will and strength, wit and power and their beautiful, unique perspective on the world. I laughed and I was saddened, I learned and re-learned. But most of all I fell in love.

I was fortunate to be able to take a trip to Ireland this February and absolutely fell in love with the country and the people. Since then I've been reading everything I can get my hands on about the country and found this charming book. Mr. Delaney is an incredible writer and he weaves the history of Ireland with 1960s Cork using the vehicle of the last Storyteller, even managing to toss in a mystery. I'm half Irish so I was predisposed to like the book, but still. It's one of the best books I've ever read and I highly recommend it.
