I ordered three copies of the book, one to keep for myself and the two others went to friends. The full title is actually Life's Healing Choices: Freedom from Your Hurts, Hang-ups, and Habits and includes a forward by Saddleback Church's senior pastor, the author of The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren.John Baker, a former pastor at Saddleback Church, based this book on the eight steps to spiritual freedom (admitting need, getting help, letting go, coming clean, making changes, repairing relationships, maintaining momentum and recycling pain) to help Christians overcome many kinds of addictive behaviors.This was taken from John Baker’s Biography: "John Baker is the founder of Celebrate Recovery®, a ministry born out of the heart of Saddleback Church. Over the last sixteen years, nearly 10,000 individuals have gone through this Christ-centered recovery program at Saddleback. I have gone through the 12 Steps and have studied and taught it. The Steps are amazing in all they do and the lives they have touched. I found this book a good "condensed" version. Not sure if that is the correct term but this book simplifies with being simplistic and presents a great initial exposure that should be a first step leading to the 12 Steps. It is a great read for families who have loved ones going through addiction struggles to help them better understand the situation and how to help and not hurt. So often we think of addicts, but addiction affects the entire family, even if they do not realize what it is that is affecting them.

I like the concept of a guided group teaching on emotional/spiritual healing. If possible, I will be be attending a facilitated group in a Church in North Raleigh North Caroliana USA in the Autumn of 2017. In the meantime previewing the course over the summer by reading the book will give me a head's up. I understand there has been considerable success for those who have gone through the program. Life is one long learning process for those open minded and open hearted enough to embrace it, and I am looking forward to what the Apostle St. Paul referred to as finishing my course. I hope those who choose to buy it find it beneficial

Very poorly written textbook. It reads like a 650 page APA-formatted paper. It's repetitive, not just from chapter to chapter, but from paragraph to paragraph. I literally have had the feeling of deja vu several times while reading different chapters. It cites authors with no explanation for them as in who they are or what they do or why we care about what they have to say . There is very little emphasis on important theories or applications. Mentions of what "this author" has done shouldn't even be included. The fact that you used a theory in your work means nothing to me. Who are you?I can't believe this is the sixth edition of this muck.I've attached a pic of one of the expertly written chapter summaries. (sarcasm)

This is a horrible copy of a book and should be removed from circulation. Of course I expect some highlights and even writing in a rented book, but to have a book with the binding falling off that has been haphazardly tapped together is just ridiculous. All college students aren't millenials and some of us actually care about the appearance of our materials when entering a classroom, especially for professional courses.

Very poorly formatted e-book. The tables and charts are quite distorted and difficult to interpret. The content of the book is easily read and understood, and as far as a nursing textbook goes this is a leisurely read. I would recommend renting a paperback copy because the e-book is difficult to navigate, and so many of the figures are poorly formatted. Not worth the convenience of an e-book.

Almost no difference from previous versions and as with many other college books hardly had to use at all. Glad there's such a great resource for renting these at a much lower cost than buy. Only needed for the 5 weeks of the class and even then once again was hardly opened.

I rented this book for a nursing class, so glad I didn't buy it. This book is horrible. I feel as though I am losing brain cell when I try to read the required sections. Finding a mere sentence to quote for discussion boards takes hours, I would rather just find journal articles to quote. The book is disorganized with no real purpose. I feel like it is just gibberish repeated over and over. I cant believe someone got paid to write it. Horrible don't buy.

This book expanded my reality of, and insight into, a remarkable culture while letting me into the world of Chief Archie Fire Lame Deer, a Lakota medicine man. The narration by Richard Erdoes is transparent and invisible, calling no attention to itself - the work of a master - and no less is called for in this fascinating and awe-provoking life story. Archie Fire Lame Deer's life as told is gritty, real, spiritual, moving, and absorbing. I wish and hope that he and other profound Native Americans like him continue to be born and share their wisdom in the world, and that more people all over come to know the spiritual truths they teach. In our current American culture, there seem to be few great souls to be found in public life. To read about someone like Archie is a gift and I recommend it highly.

A good read. I really enjoyed this humor laced autobiography from a man who has walked in the white and red worlds. His life is an amazing reflection and his healing a tribute. His lengthy descriptions of the spiritual realms is extraordinary. You will have pause to question what you know and believe if you accept his experiences as real. I've been fortunate to have personally known a native medicine woman so what he says rings true, but for many it will push the limits of the world as they know it.

Really enjoyed this book. It is very educational but has personal anecdotes in it as well. Everything that I read was inline with what I've learned about the Lakota traditions so I feel it is a trustable information source and would re-read.

I also purchased his other book, SEEKER OF VISIONS and could not put down either. They are the best books I have ever read; and also Fools Crow is another one that is fantastic.

Bought it for my mom, my father knew Archie and gave my parents a lot of good wisdom and advice

I bought this and Mind Platter last year when I was going through a period of depression after a breakup. I had a lot of anxiety before I went to sleep and I would read a couple pages each night and it really helped. Reading the passages helped me remember that other people go through the same experiences and that what I was going through did not reflect on my personal self worth.Its also a very easy read and the passages are beautifully written, reminding me that pain is a part of life and we should not be ashamed to feel the way we do. Najwa is an amazing writer!

Zebian immediately plunges the reader into her pain. She opens up herself and hides nothing. The sheer exposure allows readers to relate, connecting with her words intimately. There were some pieces that I felt so deeply, I had to stop and take her words in over and over again. Although the pain might be gone, the memory of it lingers. The author knows that there is beauty to the pain our hearts feel and it can be transformative as well. It doesn't need to cripple, but nurture you to become stronger and wiser for having experienced it. I feel this is the type of book one goes to in all stages of pain and each read you can take something more from it. Loved this work!

Najwa Zebian puts her heart and soul into this book. And if you are a narcissist survivor then I highly recommend this book. Her words were exactly how I was feeling and she gave me strength. She is absolutely amazing.

I follow this Poet on Instagram and do really like her a lot! Her work is great and I do stand behind what her intentions are. With that said, this book was just ok. Was actually kind of disappointed and feel weird for being the only one who didn’t absolutely love it. Not saying you won’t, but it didn’t hit home with me as much as her Instagram does.

I love this book. I read it in pieces. A page or two at a time. I take it in doses. It's like getting doses of "self esteem" and "it's gonna be okay" at the same time. The pain in these pages, leave you with a Very good feeling (especially recovering from a love heartache). It's amazing!!!

Excellent resource. Thorough and scientific but also understandable. A useful dictionary of terms included to 'translate' the science for the lay person. Also, even 20 years out, the photos are stunning. Who knew the variety of trilliums out there!?

All you ever wanted to know about trilliums. Excellent book.

The is an outstanding work, easily the best and most complete work on the Genus. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the maps, which I feel are a bit shabby and poorly done given the otherwise excellent nature of the rest of the work. The maps are acurate, but I feel any 16 yearold could have made better (crisper) maps in photoshop. But that doesn't really detract from the rest of the book, which is excellent. The pictures are beautiful and the authors have a masterful grasp and understanding of this beguiling yet challenging Genus. The descriptions are accurate and easy to follow.

the best of its kind

This book covers all known species of Trilliums. For those like myself who love these beautiful flowers this book has very complete up to date information on all aspects of the subject.. It is well illustrated. As far as I know there is no other book quite like it.

I had been wanting this book for years since I have some trilliums I can't be sure of.Hopefully when they regrow this spring I will be able to figure them out.

I have no words for the beauty of this book. The words, the praises, the prayers, the relationship that Concepcion has with our Lord is breathtaking. To be able to just read her love while at Adoration is an incredible blessing. It made my heart sing and pray to know the Lord in a manner such as this.

i love this book

This is not a book for the faint of heart, but it IS a book for the soul seeking to love God more, and seeking an image of the soul truly inibriated with the love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. As for me, I am in love with the Eucharist-- but must often admit that my love falls short of the level of abandonment, sacrifice,and suffering of a true lover. This book is a series of meditations or prayers before the Blessed Sacrament, and I must admit, when I read them, I often find myself saying "Lord, this is what I WISH I could sincerely say-- but I am not there yet,please help me to someday say this prayer from my heart"--particularly when the prayer includes a longing for more suffering or renunciation or humiliation. For the advanced soul, Conchita puts into words the love and longing of the soul completely dedicated to God without reserve. For a lesser soul like myself, she offers a vision of what we'd like to be when we, someday, hopefully, mature in the spiritual life. I use this book for holy hours before the Blessed Sacrament, and also as a preparation for Mass. Sometimes a single sentence will be enough to meditate on for a long time. It is a very rich, beautiful book that bears rereading over and over. I bought mine a year ago and it is tattered and dog-eared. Remember: it can be read in different ways by persons at different levels.

Excellent book! Anything written by Concepcion Cabrera De Armida (Conchita) is worth reading.
