Let me just say that you will ugly cry over this--I started crying during the introduction! It looks like a children's book, but no way will you ever ever ever be able to read this to your kids without sobbing uncontrollably and scaring the bejezus out of them. LOL That being said, I LOVE this book, just as any parent who can get super-emotional about how quickly these babes are growing up can love a book. As soon as I read it, I ordered six more for my close mama friends and my mother-in-law for Mother's Day. All of them sobbed. My husband even encouraged his male employees to give it to their moms for Mother's Day too! It is altogether lovely and terrible, since it underlines and highlights how much of a blur childhood is for us parents...what a wonderfully hard and fast road it is.

My wife highly recommends this book to mothers of all kinds. She received it has a gift when we had our daughter and she immediately purchased three more to give away to others. The concept of the book is very unique and hits home for most mothers. It is something you never really think about, the last time you do certain things with your child and the impact those times will have on you as the parent. The illustrations are very nice but really it's the overall concept of the book that hits home and is hard to forget. It is a perfect gift for expecting and new mothers. We would most definitely highly recommend it to others.

This book left me a blubbering mess. I would say this is not a book for your child. This book is for the parents to read when we are feeling stressed, angry, overwhemlmed, etc with our children. It gives me an attitude adjustment that helps me enjoy every chaotic moment with my son. This book is a blessing.

It was written by a mom of six children, Karen Kingsbury. In the beginning of the book, the author writes a message of how the book was created. Everyone celebrates "a child's first steps, first word, first tooth" but there will never be moment when you will know it's your child's last. Time flies and we must appreciate the moment we have today especially with little ones because they grow up so quickly. The book will touch the heart of any mom that has sons.

I am in love with this book. You will need tissues nearby but as a mom it touches your heart and gently reminds you to treasure the time you have with your children. This book is one of my go to baby shower gifts

This is one of my all time favorite "children's" books. I put children's in quotes because it's just as much for parents as it is for their children. I used to read this book quite often to my children when they were little. They're too old for that now, and I sincerely miss those days. The pictures are wonderful but the message it sends to parents is one that should never be forgotten. Karen Kingsbury hit the mark with this book. It is, in my opinion, one of the best children's books ever written. I always give this book as a gift at baby showers. You definitely won't regret buying this book.

We love reading this book for both our 17 year old and 2 year old. Looking back and what was and looking ahead at what's to come, it's a great reminder that time goes by so quickly, they grow up fast and to cherish every moment and age.

Got this for my 6 year old son. I read it to him the other night and we were both in tears by the end. A real treasure and I'll be taking extra special care of it so I can give it to him when he goes off to college. Totally tugs at the heartstrings. Very well written and it is relatable for parents and kids alike.

OK so I maybe too old for doing this personality test but I've always known I'm in the wrong career field. In fact, I can't even call it a career- It's a job (grateful to have a job but still). Anyway, taking the test I now understand that my personality is polar opposite to my job. This doesn't mean I'm not capable of doing my job just that it takes more out of me than what I get back. I'm a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. Whether, I can change jobs this late in the game remains to be seen but I don't feel guilty about feeling this way anymore. I think anyone who is about to go off to college, feels unfulfilled at work, or just doesn't know what direction to go in would benefit from this book. I think I would have taken the advice and changed my major in college.

I purchased this book two years ago trying to get something for my brother, so that he could decide what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. I worked as a electronics technician in a factory after ten years in the Navy, and even had gotten a degree in computer database programming. I brought the book home over Thanksgiving, and started to read it one day because I was bored. I count that as was one of my luckiest moments ever.Two years later I had put aside enough money to go to college full-time and finish a degree I always wanted. I so strongly believe in what this book says, it's changed my life. I hated my job, and hated the prospect of programming databases (I had to pick a degree that was work related, so my job would help pay for it. In addition, there's a lot of databases in the world to work on so I was looking at job security). I always believe That You Do What You Have To Do To, that you sucked it up and worked at where you got paid. I was taking anti-depressants and just hoping I could work one more year, year after year. I was so stressed out about work that my jaw would clench when I slept and I would bite my tongue, over and over again.I read this book, and found out my personality type. I took the free online test to confirm what I thought. Then this book laid out for me exactly why I hated my job, and exactly why I would hate database programming. And it laid out what job I needed to be in, and why that job would make me happy.I'm scared every now and then, because it's something new and I'm middle-aged now, and I'm used to having a job. But taking a year out to get a degree in something that will make me happy for the rest of my life will be worth it. Oh, and I've been off anti-depressants for a year now, and Doing Great!This book won't say: "Mr. Smith, you need to work at an accounting firm for a food company in Dallas Texas." What it will say is: "Hey, you're the kind of person who loved working with numbers, and double-checking digits, here are several Fields of jobs for you, why you would like them, and why you wouldn't, and what other people who are like you are doing."I'm actually bringing this book to college for some of the younger kids. I'm ordering another just to make sure I still have one. I wish I had had it when I was going, twenty years ago, and maybe my life would be a lot different.If you are at all like me, get this book. Don't wonder what will make you happy, find it!

As a fairly recent college graduate, I found myself experiencing the dreaded quarter-life crisis...I knew I didn't like my job and really had no idea to fix it. Up until reading the book I just sort of had fantasies about other jobs that I didn't know much about and in general had no idea how to make a decision. I was frozen in fear both unhappy but fearful of making a bad career decision. I overheard a coworker talking about the book and made a mental note and ordered it on amazon shortly thereafter.Pros:1. MBTI description instead of test...a couple reviewers said this was a con. I absolutely disagree. The test relies on your own accounts of preferences/behavior and can be influenced by who you want to be and not who you actually are. It does not ensure an accurate result. The book warns about this and if you're honest with yourself the book is more than enough to get you to the right answer because it describes actual real-life behaviors that are easy to identify with. For example, I tested as a Judger in a Myers-Briggs test because it means you're organized and on top of things but after reading the book, I could not deny being a Perceiver after reading a recount of how both personalities react to a pile of mail. It really forced me to face reality and I found it to be much more accurate than a test!2. It gives you the ten most important things to people with your personality type. Its a great way to evaluate a new position you're considering and helps you refine the questions you need to ask your interviewer and yourself before you consider taking the job.3. It also gives suggestions of how to make your current job more enjoyable if you are not as fulfilled as you could be and do not have the ability to change positions.4. It gives you a list of jobs to consider and you can use this with another resource (such as the book discussed below or a career counselor) to whittle down to the jobs that are the best fit for all dimensions of you as a person (including values, skills etc).Cons:There are two dimensions in this book that are covered in others:1. In addition to your personality, there are a number of other dimensions that are important in finding a career that will last including, skills, values etc. that other books cover in a very comprehensive manner.2. It does not give very comprehensive advice about going about your job search as compared to other more comprehensive resources.I think this book is great to lead you in the right direction and help you learn about yourself and then once you have the ball rolling, a great resource as a supplement is The Pathfinder: How to Choose or Change Your Career for a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success. This book is writen by a career counselor and takes the reader through the exercises he would do with his clients. It covers how to separate needs from wants, identifying your skillset and the sorts of jobs that would be a good match etc.It took me awhile after getting these two books and reading them, but in the next couple years I actually transitioned into a new career and I could not be more happy. After doing a job that is natural and comfortable to my personality I could not even imagine going back to my previous career! Really great read and I recommend it to anyone who has the fortune (or misfortune) of talking to me about careers!

Upon reading the book blurb for this one, I knew I just had to pre-order it – a beautiful island wedding where the guests are all staying at the same location, and the maid of honour is found dead – sold! And did it live up to my expectations – yes, yes, yes! I knew going in that it was going to be tamer than my usual crime read, leaning more towards contemporary drama, which it was, but I have to say it was a nice change of pace for me, and I really enjoyed it. The mystery plot, which I worried might be too obvious, wasn’t, and even when I thought I had worked it out, turns out I was wrong.There’s a lot of glamour and glitz, talk of décor, scenery, parties, outings, heaps of descriptions of food and drink (which all sounded delicious by the way) but again that was a given before I even opened the book, and was told in such an interesting, insightful way, that I even relished those parts. Nantucket Island sure does sound like a gorgeous place, and the author definitely did it justice.The story opens with the Chief of Police receiving a phone call that the maid of honour has been found floating in the ocean, on the morning of the wedding day, and covers the subsequent investigation that follows. There are also multiple flashbacks to the day before the wedding, as well as the two years leading up to the event. At times the story is pretty heartbreaking and tragic, so keep those tissues handy, but there’s also some amusing and touching moments that have you smiling.After perusing Elin Hilderbrand’s other books, it looks like this is the authors first mystery novel, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed she writes more in this vein, as she did an amazing job. Even though it’s winter here, and I read under the covers with the electric blanket, this would make an excellent summer beach read, as it’s easy to read, and follow.

This book was a complete waste of time and money. It was a travel advertisement for Nantucket and for foodies who visit Nantucket disguised as a whodunit. By the middle of the book, I frankly didn't care who did it. I finished it only in the hope that it would get better. It didn't.

I love Elin Hilderbrand and have read all her books. The Perfect Couple, in my opinion, is her best one yet. Nantucket is known to have many rich and famous residents. Many prestigious weddings have been held here. The Perfect Couple is Tag and Greer Winbury. They are planning a wedding for their son Benji to Celeste Otis. With their money they want to be sure everything is perfect. It may appear to be on the surface but cracks start to appear. Everyone has their secrets. Some secrets may crumble everything around them. There is much going on as the weddings draws closer and preparations are made. Just when you think you you know what will happen next, things change. The Winbury's may have lots of money but it doesn't buy any of them the happiness they are looking for. There are secrets upon secrets until someone dies. As the investigation continues the secrets begin to surface. Just when you think you know what happened and who did it there is a new twist. But in the end it all works out in the way it should. I loved every minute of this book and was sad for it to end. I would love for the author to write a sequel to this book and update us on Celeste, Shooter, Benji, Abby and Thomas and of course the perfect couple, Tag and Greer. What their lives may look like a year or two down the road. It could prove to be very interesting.

I was looking forward to this book. It is an easy summer read. However, the pieces of the story do not come together in the end. I don’t want to spoil the story as the author created an interesting plot around a wedding. The disappointment was there were so many ways to go to tie it all up . However I felt as if I was left midstream waiting for an epilogue or follow up chapters as to the final ending. You cannot give a Reader 400 pages of story line and not create an ending appropriate to this lengthy story!

I always look forward to Hilderbrand's summer books, they are usually a beach staple. This book ... I don't know. It seemed like 2 different things: half a story and then several different stories stitched together that fell flat. It is a supposed to be a whodunit, but the mystery part of the book is trite and unsatisfying -- not enough development in the characters to even make you care, and then, it ends up not really being a murder mystery after all. So, it was half a story as far as that goes. Then the different characters with secret lives and difficult decisions -- each of these could have been its' own story, but each was portrayed with superficial details, you wanted to know more about what happened to them, rather than just highlights thrown in now and then. Too many characters were underdeveloped and unlikeable. I felt a little cheated: both on the story and mystery. If the Perfect Couple was Romance and Mystery then they are a definite mismatch here.

I see this gimmick more and more - and hate it more and more, and in this book it reached the heights of stupidity. The author took a mediocre storyline with a fairly predictable ending and tried to spice it up by using each chapter to bounce around in time. No, not back to the distant past to explain how someone's childhood could create a murdering monster - just to bounce around in a year (EACH CHAPTER) from the murder to a week before to a month before, back to the murder again, back to a month before - and on and on and on. It was annoying, pointless and ruined the book for me. It added nothing to the book. The story itself was a mediocre plot line that added in a small twist of angst.The only good part was the actual writing - the author handles words well. But in the end, I prefer my mysteries to have a little more intrigue, and a storyline that doesn't bounce around so much that I get nauseous trying to keep up with the timeline.

Wow!! I just finished this book and disappointed is an understatement!! It was ok until I realized that the end was near... how can she finish this thing w/2% left so we can FINALLY see "Who done it??" YAWN!!! Seriously?? Talk about anticlimactic!!!

This is one of the better books out there on how to snowboard. How I know is because I read pretty much all of them. I haven't found a great book yet, but this comes close. Contrast this with how-to-ski books and you would find a lot more fine books on skiing. Perhaps snowboarding is quite simple in concept but it is the "doing" that is hard or perhaps there still has not been a good author to write any of these books? Time will tell for the latter.The skills are broken down in progression and full-color photos are really clear and nice to look. There is a section on carving and of course, terrain park skills. The beginning of the book starts off with clothing and equipment which is quite standard among such books but I never did like because I would think everyone would just skip to the part on how to actually snowboard. Putting such info in the back or appendix would make more sense. But reading on equipment and knowing what to buy will make the trip to the shop much more smoother and act as a cross-check to see if the salesperson knows his stuff.In short, after reading this book and so many others. There are really a few things one need to remember when snowboarding. Stay on the edge. Never have a flat snowboard on the snow especially at really slow speeds. By not doing this, that is when the worst thing about snowboarding happens, the dreaded slam. Avoid at all costs. Wear wrist guards and pads to protect your tail bone. A helmet wouldn't hurt either. Once you remember and have all these, you are ready to have fun.

This book is great if you really want to learn how to snowboard. In my opinion nothing can take the place of one-on-one or group lessons... but this book is a great compliment to help reinforce what you learn (or figure out) on the slopes.The illustrations are also really really helpful, so you can figure out what should be where and what it all looks like. And wear a helmet!!

I'll preface that it took me 6-7 years of reading, practice, and trial-and-error to learn to ski -mostly- properly on advanced slopes. Through those 6 years, I have learned a lot about what teaching techniques work and do not work for me.What drew me to this book is "the back-to-basics". To ski on advanced slopes, you need to know and practice the basics really well. And there are some books that are amazing at teaching you all the nuances of the basics. They teach you not only the "how", but also the "why" so you can assess yourself when you practice. And they do it repeatedly to drive it home.This book missed that expectation by a mile. It has a lot of pretty pictures. It just brushes the surface of "how". It doesn't tell you much about "why". It doesn't give you enough information to assess whether you're doing it right. It teaches you a little bit of everything, but it's very shallow. It doesn't teach you much technique, but instead gives you tips on technique.If you hit a wall in your learning, this book is unlikely to get you over that wall. There are good resources on youtube and the web that can teach you more.I've taken a group beginner, practiced a few times, and took another private intermediate snowboarding lesson. The lessons are definitely worth it.

For my 14 yr old son. The shipping was fast and great service. The book has a lot of basic stuff he has already learned, but, there is a few paragraphs of new things for him to work on and try.

I was really impressed with this book! It was informative, but not to the point of being excessive. The illustrations helped plant the concepts in your brain and the relaxed, conversational writing style made the book accessible. It has really helped my boarding too!

Still waiting for the snow!!

This book is a good read. Very easy to read and after reading you can easily get out and start to snowboard with basic skills.

Granddaughter loved the unicorn activity book!

Will be giving this book to my 4 year old granddaughter. It is definitely a 4-8 age coloring book. Some picture to detailed for the younger children. Very cute Unicorn story. Can’t wait to see her reaction...am sure she is going to love it.

This is a very funny and whimsical coloring book. I gave this to one of our young runners as part of a package for all the races she has done this year. She absolutely loved it.

My daughter loves this book. Its easy to read for beginners (she's 4) and it's sparkly and has genies and mermaids in it = success

You had to have seen the cartoon to know what the book was about, otherwise it made no sense.

The kid loves the book. She used all the stickers right away. The story is a simple and quick read, but is interesting enough to repeat and enjoy it again. The art is cute, and yes, it is sparkly! The stickers look very sparkly and cute.

My younger granddaughter loved this so much! This is very eye catching & makes children want to investigate inside. Really cute! Good for preschool preparedness.

Love that I was able to find this item on Amazon. My little girl loves it! It's a perfect gift for any little fan of Shimmer & Shine.

Cute book with fun stickers. The level 1 is too easy for my 5yo, but she enjoys reading it and playing with the stickers.

I was disappointed by this book. I was so pleased to see a book on trauma and memory, that I jumped to buy it, but though it starts out well, discussing the different forms of memory (declarative, episodic, emotional, and procedural), it soon narrows down into a consideration of only procedural memory and only a subset of that. Then it discusses his method of Somatic Experiencing and give case studies; it becomes clear that the discussion of memory is mainly to support his discussion of SE. Indeed, everything is centered around SE, not memory, including his criticisms (which sometimes made me cringe) of other therapists and researchers. So if you're looking for an interesting and clearly written account of SE, here it is, but if you're looking for a broad and objective account of traumatic memory, this isn't it.In case you'd like to look elsewhere, I can recommend the good (but much too short) discussion in The Body Keeps the Score (two chapters), the two interesting books by Lenore Terr (somewhat dated now), and the excellent web site: http://www.jimhopper.com/memory/

As a survivor of severe trauma I cried my way through the first part of this book, as the way I experience life somehow felt so validated. Peter obviously truly understands the territory and helped me to understand my own reactions and memory challenges better. I would recommend this book to anybody working with trauma survivors and trauma survivors themselves. There is so much misinformation around out there with regard to memory processes, and Peter has written a really clear explanation of the different types of memory and the issues around whether or not they are reliable. This book also has a very clear explanation of how to use the SIBAM model and pendulation to help someone to complete thwarted survival and orienting responses from the past, and even just on a first quick read has better empowered me to be with the sensations in my body. Thank you Peter, for being the pioneer you are and for bringing what you have learnt so clearly into the world through your writings.

I am a therapist who has studied EMDR and Brainspotting (BSP), both excellent trauma therapies. Often I think I don't have anything left to learn and then I come across Peter Levine with the whole piece on procedural memory. I'm wondering if the "brain spot" that you find in BSP results from a disruption in the orienting response clearly described in TRAUMA AND MEMORY. Levine has the best explanation of how various types of memories work together that I've read thus far. I also loved his case examples. EMDR taught me how to activate calming acetylcholine with eye movements that reconsolidates memories to an adaptive level by dissolving the distress hormones--adrenalin and cortisol. BSP taught me how to pay attention to visceral sensations (coming from body organs), and Levine (FINALLY) taught me how to pay attention to and what to do with body movements (procedural memory) that happen during processing. Thank you Peter!

I am a clinical psychologist who read and thoroughly enjoyed (and learned from!) this book. I have read two of Levine's other books in the past (Waking the Tiger and In an Unspoken Voice), and still felt like I learned additional material about trauma and somatic experiencing from this book, Trauma and Memory. Levine writes in an interesting, easy to understand, and readable manner so that you're learning a lot without suffering through mind bending, dry, and textbook-like material. His way of explaining the different levels of memory and how traumatic memories are formed, stored, and healed was extremely clear and made a lot of sense. In fact, it was so clear, that I was able to outline the main concepts and present them to some of my clients and students without any problems. I would definitely recommend this book to others!

While the author presents scientific support that includes complicated terminology, he writes in a way that makes it a joy to read and very clear. This book is amazing.
