An excellent book. Useful insight from an industry insider. Practical realistic. If amazon wasn't so annoying about these reviews, I'd be happy to say more.

Great ideas, perspectives and look at sustainability within modern day business context

I wish I had this book 3 years ago! I think it might have influenced how I conducted search for a graduate program, as well as my search for employment. Regardless, this book is still a relevant and worthwhile read. Mohin effectively simplifies the complexities of sustainability and makes the topic manageable and approachable. There is plenty of good information on how to get a foot in the door, how to manage your position once you're there, and how to have an impact regardless of what your function is or where you are in your career. I especially enjoyed the added context and insider tips Mohin provides. The book includes a good dose of suggestions for handling organizational behavior issues involved when effecting change within an organization. The style is conversational and accessible, with plenty of actionable advice useful for a variety of professionals.

This is a great book for everybody wanting to work or working in the field of social responsibility or sustainability as it gives a complete overview of all aspects of sustainability and practical tips on how you can build a sustainability role and/or department in your company. I especially like the two chapters about supplier responsibility as this has become a main material issue for most companies. This book is also very down to earth; people with a real passion and broad understanding of sustainability can become sustainability managers as long as they stay well informed about the issues and have the capability to lead through influence.

Changing Business From the Inside Out: A Treehugger's Guide to Working in Corporations is an ultra-practical how-to guide for any aspiring corporate responsibility (CR) professional.Mohin isn't your typical corporate lifer; he earned his chops in environmental toxicology before moving to CR roles at Intel, Apple, and AMD. He has decades of experience tactfully steering corporations toward his treehugger goals. Using real life examples, Mohin outlines the key traits a CR leader needs and provides thorough instructions on the job's essential functions - from running meetings where things actually get done to your first operations review with corporate execs.Personal experiences add color and depth to Mohin's lessons; in one memorable example, he talks his way into a Chinese factory dormitory during a supplier audit. He also provides valuable take-away lessons as follow-up. For instance, Mohin urges any CR professional to defer credit for major wins to their business units - they're the ones carrying out real changes, and they're your most important allies.Changing Business From the Inside Out reads as a detailed manual for someone who's already landed that elusive CR role - so you might not find the most direct takeaways if you're working elsewhere in the corporation. But it's a revealing glimpse into what CR professionals actually do, and delivers seriously practical advice for creating change within the corporate sector. And even if you're a treehugger who needs some convincing that CR departments really work, this is a worthwhile read.

This is a fantastic, practical and insightful guide to building and maintaining a successful career in CSR. If you work inside a corporation or indeed on the NGO/stakeholder side this book provides an indispensible roadmap to navigating the ever complicated world of sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Real world examples provide context and the language allows accessibility to all levels of experience without ever being patronizing. A real A to Z guide from someone who has been there and done (is doing) it! I work on the NGO-side of CSR and this book will allow me to better understand the challenges my partners on the corporate-side face and how I can best communicate with, and support, them throughout our joint efforts.

Tim Mohin provides a beautifully written guide for anyone who is interested in a career in corporate responsibility or anyone who works in business who seeks to help their company to advance its social and environmental agendas. Tim draws on his vast experience in corporate leadership positions with AMD, Apple, and Intel; as a sustainability consultant to Fortune 500 companies; and as the Chairman of an NGO industry coalition that addresses social and environmental challenges. In the clearest of terms, this book tells you just what you need to know to help companies achieve results. It is essential reading.

Tim Mohin's "Changing Business from the Inside Out" is more than just a textbook. It is what I would refer to as a 'text-life' because it gives first hand, practical and easily applicable guidelines on Corporate Social Responsibility. His narrative style makes it both engaging as it is interesting to read. I found the tips extremely useful and enlightening. It is no doubt the 21st century Holy Grail for all current or future sustainability professionals, and for those who are passionate stewards of the environment. Tim's wealth of experience in notable corporations also gives it an incredible edge. This book created an 'AHA' moment for me, and I am sure it will do the same for you.
