True to its title "But Enough About Me" Burt Reynolds doesn't divulge too much about himself in his book. It has tid bits here and there about his family particularly his strict father who was in the military before becoming the chief of police of a small town in southern Florida near Miami and Burt's desire to make his father proud of his son "Buddy" as he was then called. For the longest time, his father didn't think acting was a "real" job. He also writes about his school years and his love of sports growing up, his years acting on stage and his stunt work before and after becoming a move actor.I would not call this book a true memoir since the author chose to write mostly about people that he has encountered in his life, some in his personal life but mostly in his professional life and how some of them effected him. He actually has whole chapters devoted to each person that he chose to write about. I found some of the chapters really interesting, particularly the chapter on Dinah Shore (they had a romantic relationship for several years) but they never made it to the altar. He speaks of Dinah in a warm and loving way and what a great person she was, was loved by everyone, what a wonderful cook she was and would cook for anyone at all hours of the day and night.I also found interesting the chapter on Sally Field, how he insisted to have her in the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" since he thought she would be perfect for the part even though at first Universal didn't want to use her because the studio didn't think she was "sexy enough" (she had previously played The Flying Nun in her own TV sitcom) and how much sexual chemistry they had with each other from the day they met at rehearsal. They ended up becoming an item for a few years and making several movies together. The biggest surprise for me was that he writes in his book that he wishes he could turn back the clock, that he's sorry he never told her he loved her and he's sorry they couldn't make their relationship work. They spoke about marriage, but one wasn't ready when the other one was and vice versa. According to Burt, it's the biggest regret of his life. There's also an interesting chapter on his ex-wife Loni Anderson. They were married for only five years. In this book Burt writes that he doesn't even know why he married her as they are very different from each other and admits that he wasn't thinking at the time and that she was the aggressive type, she came on to him and was very determined to get him. But he writes he had his doubts about her even before he made the marital commitment. He portrays her as being money hungry and spent a lot of his money during their short lived marriage (while married to each other they adopted a baby boy, Quinton). He regrets not listening to the others' advise and his own gut instinct not to marry her. There are also other interesting chapters on Spencer Tracy, Bette Davis, Roy Rogers, Frank Sinatra and Clint Eastwood just to name a few. He also writes that he regrets posing nude in the magazine "Cosmopolitan" centerfold since he feels it affected his acting career in a negative way as he wanted to be considered "a serious actor", he wishes he would have listened to people that advised him against doing it. There's also an interesting foreword written by his friend Jon Voight (Burt met Jon while making the movie Deliverance and writes in this book some really interesting things about making that movie). So, he has a few regrets (don't we all) but has lived a very full and interesting life! If you like to read about Hollywood and its stars, you will enjoy this book!

You get the Real Burt Reynolds here. All his mistakes, all his goofiness, all his kindness, all this successes and failures. This book is like you're sitting around a patio in Florida and Reynolds is just telling his story. Sometimes I wish he'd told more about some people in his life, but maybe he had to edit for length. How a Florida jock became an actor was a very good story. And how he occasionally shot himself out of the saddle adds depth. His loves and his need to find acceptance are quite touching.I recommend this book. But it's a quarter to three a.m. and I just finished. Don't start this book if you have somewhere to be; at places it's hard to put down.

When I read that Burt Reynolds died, I was saddened by the thought that I grew up with him and now he was gone. Anyway, I looked around to see what I could read about him and saw that he released a book in 2015. This book is a wealth of information about his life as a troublemaker in high school and his ascendancy to the top of the box office as an actor. This book is a great read because it's like having Reynolds talk to you in his backyard about his life from childhood to age 78 or 79 when he co-wrote the book. He lived for another 3 years before he passed away 2 weeks ago.His movies were not the most cerebral. Like he said in the book, he liked to have fun and that's what he wanted in life and it showed.I saw Smokey and the Bandit again a week ago and boy, I remember the fun I had seeing it as a younger man! I wanted to be like him!All in all, Burt's life was the stuff of legend. Not many guys can brag like Reynolds did and not get called on their stories. However, Burt did all that he wrote in the book and it was all true. What a guy!Rest in Peace, Buddy!

Mr. Reynolds is a great story teller, I've seen him on countless talk shows over the years talking about various friends in the entertainment industry and sharing anecdotes about filming on location. The fact that his career bridges the older generation of "Movie Stars" - with capital M and S - as well as his own generation of stars and then those that came even later gives him a rare perspective. This book provides some great stories but at the same time it seems to be just sort of hitting the highlights with not much depth. I'm not referring to salacious or scandalous material, it just seems that so many long time friends of Burt Reynolds's, like Dom Deluise, Charles Durning, and others are given a few quick pages then left behind. I realize you can't cover everything but at times the information seems a bit thin.My only real negative critique is the way Loni Anderson is treated in this book. Mr. Reynolds seems more than a little mean spirited towards her... I get it. Bad breakups are tough to get past but I almost wish he would have just made a brief blanket statement along the lines of "Loni has her version, I have mine, they differ greatly. Enough said."Bottom line: Burt Reynolds shares some fun stories about his career and a few of his famous friends. It's kind of like having a chance conversation with someone on a long trip, you end up hearing things you probably didn't expect to hear but nothing particularly shocking or too in depth. Recommended for any fan of Burt Reynolds.

This is a very interesting book about Reynolds' life, and interactions/reactions to individuals such as Jon Voight, John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Sally Field, Marlon Brando and many others. Not all of his reactions are "love letters", which lends a sense of authenticity to his observations.Readers interested in the art of acting in movies, television, and theater, will enjoy Reynolds' comments as a professional who has been highly successful and is a generous teacher. When you read a memoir that leaves you feeling as though you have had a great conversation with the author-that is the essence of a fine book.

We purchased and used this Haggadah for the first time this year. Having used many different Haggadahs over the years, here are my thoughts on this one. Pros: really thoughtful and insightful readings; at first I wasn't so sure about the translation Lord our God, God of Us, but it actually grew on me; my history buff college age son loved the historical timeline and notes that appeared at the topmost edge and ran through the entire volume; my middle teenage science nerd son loved that the volume encouraged him to hold it sideways for some readings; we read many of the sets of 4 mini essays that appear throughout the volume, these were terrific conversation starters for older children, teens and college students. Cons: LONG, did I mention LONG; few transliterations to aid those at the table who are not confident with the Hebrew, the Hebrew font is difficult to read, the Hebrew font changes font sizes many times in one paragraph which is very difficult for the older folks at the table, sometimes the Hebrew is printed on top of illustrations that make vowel identification a little tricky in spots; the main sections of the seder are not well marked, often the important notes that identify sections appear as notes in a tiny font on the edges of the sections. This Haggadah would have benefited from better organization and labeling. We like to use supplementary materials and readings from past loved Haggadahs, so when we wanted to tuck out and then tuck back in to this Haggadah, it was often difficult to find well-known sections of the seder. Even for those who know the seder service well, I would recommend spending an hour with the book before you lead a table service with a pen and a pad of yellow stickies to clearly mark sections you want to use, since it is so very long with so very many options for readings, another important preparation step is to mark the pages and readings that you know you don't want to use, we did lose quite a bit of time trying to find our way through the volume, some of our favorite songs were not there (or at least we could not find them) and so we went scrambling for another Haggadah for the after the dinner portion of the service. Our consensus on how we will use this Haggadah in the future is likely as a source of readings and supplements to another Haggadah. The readings really were fabulous and lend themselves to both spirited discussion and personal reflection.

As everyone has said, the English translation in this Haggadah is wonderful. The change to "God of Us" intead of Our God, is an example of the small changes that can make reading this remarkable. There are no transliterations, which can be challenging in a mixed group. The language for God is only male, which can be startling for people used to gender neutral references to God.The "extras" to the traditional Haggadah language - other writings/musings on the theme - are written sideways on pages that only have these writings. The time line throughout the haggadah is also interesting for its context and its choices.

I picked up the new Foer/Englander haggadah and used it during the first night of Passover this year. I can't say that I came way massively impressed. I wasn't dissapointed by any means but it wasn't as if I feel everyone needs to rush out and go get this haggadah for next year's holiday. Is the artwork pleasing to see in a haggadah--yes. Are the stories interesting--sure they are.The House of Study, Library, Playground, Nation readings were interesting but I would have preferred to see them sprinkled throughout the haggdah instead of uniformly on one page at certain point. The best part of the haggadah I found was the timeline but the way it was written forces you to rotate your haggdah in an unnatural way and really in my mind takes away from the overall experience of the haggdah. My feeling is that this is a good but not great haggdah that got a lot of hype because of Jonathan Safran Foer editing it and that it is not a must have in future years.

I heard an interview with Englander on NPR and was intrigued when he talked about a faithful oral tradition describing the darkness of Exodus as "clotted" and thick. But I'm afraid the other 1-star reviewers are correct in their comments and I will not repeat them all here. What WAS interesting about the book was its timeline of the history of the Seder and its practice over time, although it became a bit tangential at places where it records the mere mention of the Passover in the writing of the likes of Joyce and Faulkner. The commentary by the author also feels irreverent when he says that G-d is just, but not "right" in His judgment of Egypt (p.66), and is infused with political correctness throughout - on the same page the author compares Egypt's judgment to "karma".

Last week we took delivery of the Foer/Englander Haggadah; my wife and I have been reading it all week long in preparation for the two seders which we host for family and friends.During our process of changing dishes and augering boxes, I found an old newspaper I used to wrap Passover dishes many years earlier. It was the NY Times from April 2nd, 1999 and in front of me was the book review for Mr. Englander's book--'For the Relief of Unbearable Urges', one of his first.I took this as a sign that this review was waiting for me, all these 13 years to re-discover and read along with his co-authored Haggadah. Was this fate? Destiny? Coincidence? Or, was it just one of those things that happen that can change the course of one's mindset?I don't know. But I do recommend both of these works to all who seek a different and indeed refreshing perspective on things.

May be OK for what's new in ios 12 but useless for anyone wanting to learn how to get productive use out of an Ipad. Full of the usual gushing about photos and music and clouds but not much of a practical nature.

This is an absolutely adorable book about a little cat with a big imagination. Very fun and engaging, especially if you really get into the Spanish parts! My daughter loves it - great for pre-k/K.

This is an adorable book. My daughter borrowed from the library and it was missing several pages. So we purchased this one and donated it back to the library after she read it. Fun to read out loud, silly, and a cute story.

My mom gave this book to my daughter and we love it so much I bought copies for friends’ kids! It’s as much fun to read as it is to listen! Some of the books in the series have recordings of the author reading them and my daughter loves those too. The Skippyjon stories are so engaging you may at first miss that the artwork is beautiful; check out Sarabella’s Thinking Cap by the same author.

Super cute story and Really fun to read out loud, playfully to any kids- but especially if the crowd is even somewhat bilingual or familiar with Latin culture. (I like to make the voices all different, even changing up the accent for the Latino parts) My 5 kids all laugh every time I read it to them. We all love it so much, I bought another copy for my sister to read to my new nephew. (By the time he understands the story, hopefully she will have all the voice changes down😉) Even if not, I am 100% sure she will laugh reading it to herself and love yhe story.

The Skippyjon Jones books have been favorites of all my kids, and The Big Bones is definitely their favorite of them all! Read this out loud with your kids, do the voices, and have a ton of fun.

This is a very fun and entertaining story. This is our first Skippyjon book and we both love it. It is a laugh-out-loud fun book. The text is hilarious, especially when you can act out the parts and accents of the different characters. The illustrations are a perfect match to Skippyjon's adventure to old Mexico where he meets a group of Chihuahuas who hope that he is the one to save them from the frioles thief, Bumblebeeto Bandito. We have already ordered another Skippyjon book. The book in this set is a small hardback (about 6 inches by 6 inches). The little doll is on my son's treasure shelf and has already been taken to show-and-tell. The set is a wonderful addition to his library. I would highly recommend this set for any child or even as a nice gift. Happy reading!!

This has got to be the best book to read. I’ve purchased at least 5 copies because it’s my go-to gift (with the Skippyjon Jones plush toy) for every birthday present ages 1-5.My little one loves to hear about Skippyjon Jones and his adventures and it’s a book I can read over and over again without dying of boredom.

My four year old granddaughter loved it. My adult son also laughed while I read the story to her!

Predict--verbTo state, tell about, or make known in advance, especially on the basis of special knowledge. Happiness--nounGood fortune; pleasure; contentment; joy. I coined the term "predictable happiness," which by definition is the ability to know what will happen next and feel good about it. The Baby Sleeps Tonight Plan is based on this concept. Why be reactionary when you can be empowered? Incorporating the plan into your family's life will lessen the degree of anticipatory anxiety you'll experience as a parent. Through a three-pronged approach of scheduled feedings, naps, and wake-times, the plan will create balance and predictable happiness in your life, while enabling everyone in the house to avoid sleep deprivation and regain their clarity and peace of mind. --Shari Mezrah

I cannot express how amazing this book is. I am mildly obsessed with it. When I was pregnant with my son, my husband and I didn’t know the first thing about caring for a newborn. A friend suggested this book so we ordered it and both read it. We followed the schedule exactly as the book suggests and were amazed by the results!! Our son was sleeping through the night at about 2 months old. He also had a consistent nap schedule that made it easy to plan our days around. He is 2 years old now and still NEVER complains about going to bed, can put himself to sleep, and sleeps all the way through the morning. He also still takes a 2-3 hour nap every afternoon which is a nice little break for us! I give this book as a gift to any friend who is expecting. Everything you need to coach a perfect sleeping baby is right here!! You just have to be disciplined enough to follow it. Seriously it is life changing!! Anyone who babysits my son is AMAZED at his professional sleeping skills. Seriously, if you are thinking about ordering this book just do it! It’s the best decision I have ever made.

I don't normally take the time to review products I purchase online...or anywhere for that matter...but after using this sleep training method I am so enthusiastic about it I just have to share our experience with this technique! 11 months ago we got pregnant with our fourth (and FINAL) baby boy and knew we would need to find something to help us get as much sleep as soon as possible, and with as little crying as possible. I had previously read "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" and the "No Cry Sleep Solution" as well as "Baby Wise." Nothing worked with the last three boys so I was pretty hopeless but since "The Baby Sleeps Tonight" was so reasonably priced I thought, "What the heck...it's worth a shot!" Best $7.99 I ever spent!!! We started the program in the hospital and did NOT stray from the program at any point except to adjust the time he goes down from 11pm to 10 pm at 7 weeks old. With reluctancy at week 4 we got rid of one of the nightime feedings and low and behold there was no fussing. Last week we noticed that our baby was only taking a couple ounces at his only other nightime feeding so one week early we took that one away. Again...success! He now sleeps from 10 pm until 6 am with no waking for a feeding. I am astonished. I was such a doubter after having three terrible sleepers prior to this one and I am absolutely convinced that this book is the difference. I wish I had it for all of them!!! Because this program graduates baby at such a slow rate they hardly seem to notice when you extend feeding times or lengthen sleep times. Keeping them up longer and at appropriate lengths of time so they do not become overtired or too rested is another key most other books-well every other book I have tried-seem to miss. The crying it out stuff never has to happen with this program. If there is fussing it is minimal and very tollerable for baby and us. I just cannot say enough good things...simply put just buy and try it! The worst part for me was the fear of long nights of torturous fits...but not the fits because they just never came. A well slept baby makes mommyhood so much more enjoyable. Our son as well, being well rested is so much more relaxed and enjoyable during the day...

Has some good recommendations but not all of them

I love the time charts to help with feeding, awake and sleep times. Baby is 15 weeks old and has been sleeping a minimum of 6 hours at night since week 4! #blessed! :)

This book saved our sleep!! Our son is now one of the best sleepers out of any kid his age.

When my daughter was born, she was not a great sleeper (my fault). When my son was born, I had read this book and followed the schedules listed in the book. I did not follow the idea if leaving the baby for 15 minutes though bc I feel like they are so young and should be attended to. Instead of leaving baby on his own, I gave him his pacifier until he wouldn't accept it anymore at which point I knew he was actually tired. He slept through the night by 9 wks like the book suggested. When my next 2 boys were born, I followed the schedule listed again and they also slept through the night early on. I had to make some small adjustments in the evening bc they wanted to sleep more than the schedule suggested. This book is an excellent starting point with a well laid out schedule to get your baby to sleep well (but make minor adjustments to it to fit your needs like I did with the no crying it out policy that I have).

we started the program late and in 2 days our baby went from wakening every 2 hours to sleeping 5 hours through the night. After 2 weeks of following baby sleeps for 11 hours at night. So wonderful! I think every new parent should have this book. I have a lot of friends with babies the same age (that I met in pre natal yoga), they don't use the plan and I'm the only one with a baby that sleeps through the night. We keep the feedings times real strict and near the end made our own schedule that works best for us. We also substitute with formula for the last meal of the day. This gives me a chance to pump extra for storage.

The best thing to happen to new parents. Having an infant sleeping all night has some real value especially for working parents.

+So in my review of The Elements, I stupidly suggested that the book was a great example of why e-books weren't going to replace physical books any time soon. Well we know how that turned out (the fully interactive Elements app on iOS is breathtaking and undoubtedly many times more popular than the book). I'm sure Touch Press is about to release Molecules as an iOS e-book app too [Update: they did], but I'm still really glad I got the physical book."The Elements" and "Molecules" look very similar, but there are some subtle differences due to the difference in their subjects. The Elements was primarily a beautiful picture book and catalog of all the elements. But that made it somewhat more abstract since most of us rarely interact directly with more than a handful of elements, and their atomic nature is less a part of every day experience. The text was mostly interesting trivia for each element.Molecules on the other hand moves up a layer from atoms to molecular compounds, and as such it comes a step closer to our daily experience. The Elements was a book you mostly looked at, but Molecules is a book you'll want to READ since it's jam packed full of interesting and useful information about the chemistry of nature and human industry. It's still just as lavishly illustrated and beautifully produced as The Elements, but there's much more depth here because the author is not compelled to cover "all" of anything as was the case in the earlier book (where honestly there are a lot of pretty boring or obscure elements).Amazon's "Look Inside" feature lets you see what most of the book looks like if you want to see examples of the topics covered, but it does a good job of covering (in an interesting and visual way) both the chemistry of how atoms become molecules and then the properties of various molecular species, as well as numerous higher level applications and what sort of molecules we experience through our senses (color, scent, taste, etc.) as well as those with biological applications (painkillers for example).A great gift for a child or anyone about to begin their study of the sciences, especially chemistry. It's a book with a very high signal to noise ratio, one that will leave you feeling smarter after you read it.G.

I LOVE this book. It's was difficult to put down once I started reading it. What I loved the most was that the book leaned toward organic chemistry, which is my favorite chemistry topic. The illustrations were very clear; I especially liked how the author rendered molecules with a faint glow — not only does it underscore the reality about what electrons truly are, it also aesthetically looks very pleasing against the black background of the book's pages. The photography was crisp and the subjects were varied and well thought out. Despite having just completed 1200 pages of general chemistry, I still learned an important thing or two that I didn't know before. The topic of this book, molecules, is such a broad umbrella that 1000 people could write such a book and you'd have 1000 very different approaches, some good and others not so good. With such an expansive set of things the author could have touched on, I think he did a good job in selecting what to mention and what to leave out, while still being both educational and entertaining. In short, I'd say you can't be disappointed in this book (unless you just really hate chemistry and/or the physical sciences).(That being said, my only complaint, and it's a minor one at that, is Theodore's rather opinionated views on things. If a second edition ever comes out, I would recommend to the author and the publisher to remove the few places where he thrusts his personal opinions on the reader. Not everyone holds the same beliefs, and opinions don't really belong in a book dealing with science anyway.)

This is definitely a book you want to display on your coffee table. Doesn't matter if you are a science buff or not. The pictures in this book are absolutely stunning to look at. Seeing such detail of the world around us is fascinating. You can read through this book again and again, without getting bored, see something new each time, and change the way you look at everything around you. Mr. Gray includes information about each molecule, and for anyone that is a trivia buff, this book will be a favorite. If you get this book, I highly recommend that you also purchase the author's other book Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe. Both books are worthwhile purchases for any person.

Theo Gray makes elements and now molecules personal. Neotame is one molecule he photographed for the book, carefully placing just a few grams into a glass dish. Neotame is a safe sweetener that's 10,000 times as sweet as sugar. Despite being exceedingly careful, he still tasted a pleasant sweetness on the back of his tongue, just from the molecules in the air from opening the container. For hours afterward, his mustache tasted sweet. This suggests a great training exercise for college chemistry students -- measure out one gram of neotame, then put it back in the container. This is primarily a picture book, so he's got pictures of everything. Many types of animal pee can be bought, and he shows how they are packaged. A drawback to elements is that most are gray -- with molecules, most are white, but he varies that up by showing the end products, such as many types of rope. Turns out cats and parrots each favor one particular type of rope. I didn't realize how toxic wallpaper could be -- see his section on Paris green (copper acetoarsenite). It's a big book, gorgeously photographed. What sets it apart from a DK picture book is that he's got great stories interspersed with the interesting facts on every page. In the opening, he talks of historic reactions involving the oil of vitriol -- "but I still haven't told you what this stuff is yet". I didn't remember, but I continued to let him tell the story and show the pictures.Highly recommended.
